Prolotherapy
Prolotherapy is a commonly used alternative treatment method for chronic musculoskeletal pain.
How does it work?
A small amount of an irritant solution is injected into an injured site to cause an inflammatory response that stimulates the release of growth factors favoring soft tissue healing.
The resulting inflammation may strengthen and enlarge targeted ligaments, tendons and intra-articular structures leading to improved joint stability, biomechanics and a decrease in pain.
What conditions can it treat?
Lateral Epicondylitis | Achilles Tendinopathy | Hip Adductor Tendinopathy |
---|---|---|
Plantar Fasciitis | Knee Osteoarthritis | Chronic Low Back Pain |
What are the risks?
The following risks may or may not occur and are typically self-limited:
-
Pain, a sense of fullness, or numbness at the time of the injection
-
Post-injection pain flare up during the first 72 hours
